About Us

Weealla Merinos & Poll Merinos is a family owned and run stud, across 3 properties at Balladoran, we are situated 35k south from Gilgandra and 65km north of Dubbo just off the Newell highway. Weealla Merinos was originally registered after purchasing East Roseville stud ewes, we have introduced Glendonald 0.418, along with other GLD Sires and sons of Roseville Park top Sire's Plus the  use of Weealla  sires in our regular A.I.programmes.

Weealla Poll Merinos was originally Roxanna Poll Stud. We purchased the entire Roxanna Stud in 2007. Roxanna has been established since 1967. Roxanna has a history of breeding top quality sheep, winning many broad ribbons. At 2009 Adelaide Ram Sale, Weealla purchased the top Poll ram sold by Greenfields for $17500.We purchased Claypans Ram at the 2014  Katanning W.A. Ram Sale for the top price of $19000.

Weealla Poll has entered WEE117 into the MerinoLink Sire Evaluation at Jugiong. He is currently a trait leader for Post weaning weight and yearling weight. At Weealla his top ram lambs weigh in at 111kg, EMD 40mm, certainly backing up his trait leadership status.

Changing economic times means there is more emphasis now on the meat production traits of merinos. We are weighing and muscle scanning our rams, at 10-11 months of age. Our clients expect to sell their wether lambs at an early age. An important factor in lamb production is fertility in ewes, something we have always selected for. We retain only the most productive and profitable ewes, allowing us to mark more lambs.

More ewes to select from, means a faster genetic gain to a better flock. All this is combined with a heavy cutting sheep that Weealla is renowned for.
